Books published in 2009 were eligible, but authors had to submit them to the contest to be judged. Seattle authors made another strong showing among the finalists: Alexis Morgan, Julia Quinn, Margaret Mallory, Susan Wiggs, Jane Porter, and Lakeside alumna Marjorie M Liu (Class of ’96). There were, as usual, many great books of 2009 that didn’t make the cut. Who knows if the authors submitted their works. RITA winners will be announced at the Romance Writers of America national conference in Nashville in July.

Your vote is needed, and it takes 3 minutes. Check out the candidates and Q&A sessions on the RWA national website. PRO members get to vote on PRO liaison. PAN members, well, there’s only one person running. It’s disturbing how many positions are uncontested. Only one person wants to be president? Really? I know it’s a lot of work, but come on. It’s president! (No, I’m not running, but I might at some future date.)

I predict more people will vote this year given the buzz over epublishing. Our votes matter, whether you’re an aspiring author, book seller, librarian, epub’d or traditional published author. Let’s get out the vote!
